What is Optus Voice to Text?

Optus Voice to Text is an exciting new VoiceMail feature that converts spoken VoiceMail messages into text and then sends them to your mobile handset as an SMS. This saves you having to dial into your VoiceMail box to listen to messages and means you can read the message at times when it might not be appropriate to call VoiceMail – for example if you're in a meeting or out at the movies and it only takes a few minutes for the average VoiceMail to get converted and sent to your mobile.

How accurate is the message conversion?

Background noise, accents, how fast a person is speaking or network signal drop-outs can all affect the quality of your converted message.

If Optus Voice to Text cannot decipher a word in a VoiceMail message, you will see '(?)' after the word to indicate that Optus Voice to Text has spelled the word phonetically.

If the system could not hear a part of the message due to network signal drop-out, muffled speech or other interference, Optus Voice to Text will insert '_____' in place of the word or phrase to indicate that a part of the message could not be converted.

Conversions are a maximum of 3 text messages in length. Once that limit is reached there will be an ellipsis “…” at the end of the text, indicating the message was too long to be converted in its entirety. You can then dial into your VoiceMail box via 321 if you want to listen to the entire message.

If your VoiceMail message cannot be converted at all, due to unsupported language, background noise or for some other reason, you will receive an SMS notification advising you simply that you have a new message. The caller will be presented as the sender, allowing you to call or text them straight back as you would with any SMS.

Who is eligible for Optus Voice to Text?

Optus Voice to Text is available on all Optus Post-Paid and Pre-Paid plans.

All Optus customers that connect to a Post-Paid mobile rate plan will be eligible to take advantage of the free 14-day trial of Optus Voice to Text.

You must have an active Optus account with VoiceMail active, you cannot get Optus Voice to Text if you have call barring activated or are using SureFax or SurePage. Please call 133937 for assistance.

How much does it cost?

You can opt into a monthly Optus Voice to Text subscription charged at $6.99 per month after or at any time during your 14-day trial. This entitles you to unlimited Optus Voice To Text converted messages.

Existing customers can activate the service by:

Texting ON to 7746 (free of charge) from your handset OR;
Online by logging into MyZoo Mobile at mobile.optuszoo.com.au and navigating to Optus Zoo Home>My Mobile>Set Up My Mobile>Set Up VoiceMail and setting your VoiceMail Message Delivery method to SpinVox Voice to Text 14 Day Trial

You can opt out of your trial or subscription by texting OFF to 7746 (free of charge) at any time.

Please call 369 (free of charge) from your mobile for more information on this service.

Normal diversion rates may apply for VoiceMail deposits, but there will be no charge incurred for using the Optus Voice to Text service during the trial. To exit the trial simply text to 7746 with the code OFF.
Please note that requests may take up to 48 hours to complete. You can check status of your subscription by logging into your Optus Zoo account, where you can also manage your subscription to the service.

Optus Voice to Text

Service: Optus Voice to Text (Voice to Text) is a service that converts spoken VoiceMail messages to text messages and delivers them to your mobile. Voice to Text replaces the standard Optus VoiceMail delivery method. Optus VoiceMail must be active on the account before Voice to Text can be added.

Charge: Voice to Text costs A$6.99 per month for unlimited message conversions sent by SMS to your mobile account. If you are a prepaid customer, this charge will be deducted from your MyCredit balance each month. If you do not have sufficient MyCredit to pay the monthly subscription fee, the Voice to Text service will be cancelled. Standard VoiceMail charges apply for dialling into the VoiceMail network to listen to left messages. Standard SMS roaming rates apply when subscribing to the service via SMS whilst overseas.

Cancellation: Voice to Text can be cancelled or changed back to standard VoiceMail at any time by SMSing OFF to 7746 or by selecting an alternative VoiceMail delivery method online in mobile.optuszoo.com.au. The Voice to Text billing cycle is independent of your plan’s billing cycle. If you cancel this offer before the end of your Voice to Text billing period, you will not be refunded any unused portion of the monthly subscription fee. Availability: This offer is available to Consumer Optus GSM Mobile customers on eligible ‘yes’ Cap and Yes mobile plans and prepaid calling offers only. Voice to Text cannot be used for commercial purposes. Optus Mobile Fair Go™ policy applies. A maximum of 60 VoiceMail messages (Post-Paid Mobile) or 30 VoiceMail message (Pre-Paid) can be stored on the network for up to 5 days. The last message will be presented first when dialling into the network.

Activation: Voice to Text can be activated by texting ON to 7746 or through mobile.optuszoo.com.au.

General: The time it takes to convert spoken messages to text is up to 20 minutes. We cannot guarantee that all messages will be converted correctly. If parts of a message cannot be converted they will be marked or omitted. In some instances, a third party agent might assist in the translation of individual words or small portions of the spoken message. If a message cannot be converted at all, a notification SMS with instructions on how to retrieve the VoiceMail message will be sent to your handset via SMS. This can happen due to a spoken message not being in English, or because of poor diction, poor connection, context or background noise. If the spoken message is too long to be converted into a maximum of three text messages, the text will be truncated and you will have to dial into their VoiceMail to listen to the entire message. Optus is not responsible for the content of any converted VoiceMail messages. Optus does not censor or filter messages that get converted by the voice-to-text conversion system. Voice to Text is a technical service enabling spoken messages to be converted to text messages. VoiceMail messages that have been converted to text messages are saved for 5 days. You must not use or permit the Voice to Text service to be used: i) to breach any laws, standards, content requirements or applicable codes of conduct, ii) to infringe a third party’s rights; or iii) in connection with any machine-to-machine or automated or commercial applications other than the conversion of VoiceMails received in a personal mailbox. Optus reserves the right to suspend, limit or disable the Voice to Text service at any time if the service has been used in a way described above.
